Position Title: External Engagement (Events) & Policy Associate Fellow 

Position Close Date: June 25, 2021 

Reporting: Director of Sustainability and Engagement  

Position Summary: This non-supervisory, matrixed role will manage and execute key aspects of the Climate Leadership Conference and Awards and other C2ES-led events, and support other stakeholder engagement on and policy research for C2ES' climate and energy projects. This position will report to the Director of Sustainability and Engagement, and at times will work closely with the Vice President of International StrategiesVice President of Business Engagement, and Vice-President of Policy and Outreach, and their teams   

Major Responsibilities: 

Events management:  

  • Annual Climate Leadership Conference and Awards 

  • Assist with content developmentcoordinate and manage speakers, and support goals to achieve diverse stakeholder representation and perspectives  

  • Oversee and manage administration and logistics of the conference (e.g., event and vendor contracts, registration platform set-upAV and production companies, website support, hotel, tour transportation) 

  • Assist in on-site event management (e.g., room set-upsmanaging onsite vendors, registration, catering, etc.  

  • Managing stakeholder requests and participation in the conference 

  • Assist in managing Climate Leadership Awards content development and process 

 

  • Other Events:  

  • As needed, assist with organizing workshops, briefings, roundtables and other events engaging policymakers, experts and stakeholders 

  • As needed, assist with speaker management for C2ES webinars 

Support for Policy Initiatives:  

  • As needed, conduct research and analysis of state, federal, and international climate and energy policy issues, including market-based solutions and policies that advance equity and justice  

  • Synthesize and communicate relevant policy insights for different audiences, including business, policymakers, and other senior decisionmakers 

  • Support the establishment and maintenance of strong relations with representatives of governments, institutions, C2ES Business Environmental Leadership Council, and diverse stakeholders engaged domestically and internationally in climate policy 

  • Produce briefs, presentations, web content and other written materials for internal purposes and for publication 

  • Contribute to the development of C2ES strategy and initiatives, as needed 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 2 years or more relevant experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in policy, politics, law, economics, finance, environmental law, energy, sustainability, or related field OR, if candidate has a different bachelor's degree, work experience demonstrating interdisciplinary understanding of climate/energy issues (science, technology, economics, business, law and policy) 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Excellent stakeholder outreach and engagement skills 

  • Experience planning external- facing virtual and in-person events, including managing contracts, vendors, and event logistics 

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail  

  • Experience incorporating diverse perspectives into stakeholder events and policy discussions to ensure greater diversity, equity, inclusion and justice within climate policy 

  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills  

  • Ability to prioritize among and efficiently manage multiple assignments, and to pitch in at all levels 

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed 

  • Understanding of how businesses and communities are reducing their climate impacts and/or strengthening resilience measures, including familiarity with current policy discussions for achieving net zero emissions by midcentury and the main tenets of the Paris Agreement 

  • Strong understanding of state and federal climate and energy policies as well as political and legislative processes 

  • Advanced degree in environmental/energy economics, business/finance, or related field. 

 

Travel, Time & Location Requirements: Position is based in the Washington, DC, area. Travel is required to the Climate Leadership Conference for 4-6 days each year. Other occasional domestic and international travel (<20%) may be required. Most work occurs between the hours of 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM Monday through Friday EST, however applicant must be able to work varying hours based on business needs. Starting in September 2021, C2ES staff will return to the office for a minimum of 2 days per week, with the option to work remotely the rest of the week.
